Ever set out to do something, only to get sidetracked by a much more interesting activity? If so, this song should ring true to you. With performances, guests (both family and friends), and work, all while trying to take advantage of the beautiful weather we’ve been having in the Pacific Northwest, we’ve been pretty busy having fun lately. You could say we’ve been…too busy. This song is fun too though, so if you will, take a minute out of your busy day and enjoy. 🙂

Hooray for summer!

After months of wondering whether it would ever come, summer has finally arrived in Portland and it’s been great. In a cynical spell, though, I started thinking, “what if this is the only week we get?” That’s where the inspiration for the song came from, fleeting yet marvelous summer. From there it became more general, about time moving fast and all that, but I’ll leave the rest of those interpretations up to you. Enjoy the song and the sun:

On a more musical note, I have to say that I’m especially proud of this song. Throughout the roughly 4 minutes the song cycles through 3 different keys (Ab, C, and E) in a way which I feel is not forced at all. That’s quite a challenge, and I was very pleased with how it came out. Furthermore, the fact that the song cycles through keys seemed like a perfect fit with the cyclical nature of the song’s lyrics. That’s my bit of insight, take it or leave it. 🙂

Peace,
Eran

Writing a new song every week for a whole year means you really need to tap into your idea reserves. For me, that means finding inspiration in the every day. I started this song with the footage of me cooking dinner, and from there wrote some lyrics, which took us two weeks to put to music. The rest of the video was just me playing around 🙂

I should mention that the carrots, beans, squash and lettuce provided by our great CSA Farm, Sauvie Island Organics. It’s really true, food tastes better fresh from the farm, and we’re thrilled to be getting a delicious delivery every week.

We are definitely trying to expand our horizons creatively this year and I do think this song pushes some edges. Musically, because it’s not a song I would think of as “ours” in terms of sound and feel. Visually, because sometimes it’s a little hard for me to put on a character and get silly. But whenever I do, it sure is fun!

We’ve already started work on next week’s song and I’m very excited to share it with you. Have a great week!
